Are you as a student feeling a new surge of energy coming to finalise those last papers of the academic year? Your work is blossoming - I hope!

Daffodils and tulips are appearing here in England. It will be a colourful start to the season.

For some cultures, as in Iran, the new year starts on 20/ 21st March -

to us in the Western calendar - the Spring Equinox.

I wonder why our western culture remains tied to the seasons after the harvests are reaped in September. In Australia, it is the opposite way around. I think semesters begin in January with the Julian-Gregorian adapted

calendar now in use for centuries. However, the academic calendar is tied in the northern hemisphere to start after harvest, and finish before harvesting! September to June/ July.

Your work for universities, however, needs harvesting soon. I recall working on a farm once, just before harvest. I was told to go into a field and start hoeing out all the weeds between the turnips and potatoes... and then go into a wheatfield and pick out all the 'tares' that look so similar earlier in the season but then wafted taller than the wheat and possible to tear out!

So with academic work. It is the penultimate season of the academic year. When you write something and you think you have finished it, do you ever let it lie a while and then go back to it to pull out the weeds: - the spelling and punctuation errors, the grammar and even the weak arguments need to GO>. If you manage it well within time, before the deadline, may I suggest a proofread? I would be willing to do one for you if you wish although it would require me time and I would send you an invoice per hour of work. Some students have done that; it has proven beneficial for an overall higher mark.
